I love a good day date. They are usually spontaneous, involve getting outside, and often trying something new. My husband and I day-date all the time, sometimes it’s a surprise for the other person and sometimes we plan it together, either way it’s always a good time. The summertime is one of the best time for day dates with so many things going on and great weather, so I figured I’d share some fun summer day date ideas for all the lovers out there. And because we are still saving for that white picket fence, you know I got ya covered on the cheap ๐
1. VISIT YOUR LOCAL FARMERS MARKET
Plan out a dinner to make together that night, my vote is something full of veggies and nutritional value, and scoot on over to your local farmer’s market to get all the fixin’s together. Explore all the fun market stands, maybe try a bite or two and get a great walk out of it. Then transition the day-date to night by cooking a great meal together sponsored by your local business and produce (typically at a great cost!).
2. RENT BIKES & EXPLORE A NEW AREA
I am so glad that there are more and more bike-share programs popping up all over my city (and hopefully yours as well). Since we are in an apartment right now, the hubs and I have held off on buying bikes (thought we definitely want them) so if we want to ride around we have to look for a bike-share. Thankfully there’s one close to us and it’s such a cheap way for us enjoy bikes and ride around our city. We have fun finding our next location based upon where we can post up the bikes (with the same stands around the city) and it’s helped us explore new areas. Find your closest bike-share and get to your next location.
3. PICNIC AT A SCENIC SPOT
When is the last time you had a real picnic? Blanket, maybe some cheese, grapes and crackers (even some rose?!). I think it’s time. Pick a park, by the lake, or another scenic spot, go for a mix of your favorite picnic foods, a good blanket, and ditch the technology (after you get your instagram) for some good ol fashion fresh air and conversation.
4. TRY OUT A NEW WORKOUT TOGETHER
I love trying out new workout classes. It’s a great way to challenge myself, work some muscles that I may not usually use, and learn new ways to get in a good sweat. Thankfully my hubby loves them too, or is willing to appease me enough, that we’ve done a few day dates of trying out new workout classes. Paddle board yoga? Boxing? Find something where you can still interact (or flirt from afar) and make a date of it.
5. MINI ROAD TRIP
I love full on road trips but they don’t end up so cheap and sometimes require days off we don’t have. But why not pick a close by location near your city you’ve never been to before and make a mini road trip out of it. Throw on some old tunes, grabs some snacks, and venture to a new place you’ve not been to yet. I think you’ll find you take the places near your city for granted or make it a bigger effort than it seems to get out so make a plan, take the day and make a date of it.
Which one will you try? Any other cheap day dates you’ve got planned for the summer?
XO,
JESS
